Biography
I'm a Swedish-Ethiopian journalist who got my industry break working for the Swedish equivalent to MTV, and eventually landed at CNN International.
I've seen the media industry from every angle, soaking it all in, and met some interesting characters along the way…
I began my career behind the scenes, crafting digital videos for CNN, and then moved to the UAE to work on the channel’s flagship Middle East news program ‘Connect the World with Becky Anderson’.
Craving to expand as a storyteller, I later took the advice of industry colleagues to transition to on-camera reporting, covering major regional issues such as Israel’s normalization with Arab countries and the Qatar diplomatic crisis for Reuters Broadcast Solutions.
I also seized on the opportunity to report for BBC World Service and Politico Europe, exploring topics ranging from African geopolitics to arts and culture as well as Sweden’s ongoing crisis with gang violence.
I've also added my unique flair to panel discussions at events such as Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, World Expo Dubai, and, most recently, COP28, where I recently moderated a high-level discussion for Siemens Energy Africa.
In terms of future ambitions, I've got my eyes set on several documentary projects, itching to delve deeper into reporting in Africa and Scandinavia while also exploring a growing interest in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.
With my unique background and perspective, I'm ready to make a mark in this ever-changing world of storytelling and collaborate with the next generation to reimagine what our industry could look like in the years ahead.
